Updated: On April 14th, 2014, my Peace Corps service ended 15 months early due to the political unrest in Ukraine. I’ve decided to leave this page of my blog active, as a reminder of the goals I had for my personal life in Ukraine.

Here is a ‘bucket list’ of fun things I hope to accomplish during my time in Ukraine. I will update this list throughout my service, as I cross some goals off and add new ones.

1. Run a marathon or half-marathon - Currently signed up for the Prague Marathon in May 2014

2. Climb Mount Hoverla, the tallest point in Ukraine

3. Touch my toes from a standing position - this has been a long held dream of mine; after over 2.5 decades of inflexibility  I’m closer than ever before.  Achieved 11/21/13

4. Read 103 books – visit my page “The Reading List” to view my current progress

5. Visit Turkey - I’m considering running the Istanbul marathon in November 2014. We’ll see how the Prague marathon goes before I decide!

6. Visit all 24 oblasts and Crimea - I’ve currently been to 5 oblasts – as of 9 February

7. Achieve an advanced low rating on the Peace Corps language test for Russian

8. Learn (and use!) all of the conjugations for all verbs in the ’200 Verbs” packet given to me by Peace Corps - Verbs schmerbs. Not my favorite thing to study, but an extremely important part of every language.  Maybe I’ll eat a piece of chocolate every time I successfully memorize one?

9. Jump in the Sumy fountain - Now, of course, I could have already jumped in. But I feel like it needs to be saved for a special occasion. Will post photos when I find a special enough occasion and a willing partner-in-crime

10. Attend a Ukrainian wedding

11. Hold a plank position for 5 minutes - Currently, I can hold it for 2:05.

12. Take a trip to somewhere unexpected by pulling the name of a Wizz Air destination out of a hat. Wizz Air is a discount airline that flies out of Kiev. There are numerous flights from Kiev to unexpected places, at really inexpensive prices. (Inexpensive by American standards).

FYI – This list does not include work-related projects, since many of those projects will be discussed during my regular blog posts!

Happy to take any comments!

If you memorize the conjugation of all the verbs you will score much higher than lower advanced! And yes, chocolate as your prize for achievements… and maybe chocolate to help you get there!
